In keeping with the Jonesborough storytelling tradition:
Once upon a time, there lived a little girl named Lillian. Lillian loved to hear her mother
tell stories of the “old” country, Sweden, where she had grown up - - - and of
a sweet smelling pink flower that grew on the woodland floor. Lillian vowed, then and there,
that she would have a daughter named for that flower.
Twenty-some years later, my mother changed the spelling and I became the namesake of the Linnaea
borealis plant.
I later learned that Carolus Linnaeus, a Swedish scientist, was the creator of the botanical
naming system for plants. Linnaea borealis was the plant chosen to honor his work.
With my love of nature and plants, it seemed natural for the flower to become the name of the
business.
